About the Author
Johanna M Bolton is an award winning author with several novels as well as science textbooks and other non-fiction titles to her credit. A retired teacher, she says she now has more time to venture into the field of music, arranging for and playing fiddle as well as bowed and un-bowed psalteries, and dulcimers, and flutes. Bolton admitted to teaching herself to read music and play the piano when she was eight because she heard a beautiful piece of music (Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata) and wanted to play it. Eventually she did. Over the years she added other instruments, playing the violin in a youth orchestra in Germany when she was 13, then working her way through college as a folk singer accompanied by guitar, lute, and autoharp. More recently she played the flute with a trio in Santa Fe, New Mexico where she lived for twenty years. She also enjoys playing her tenor recorder with an early music group. 20 CELTIC TUNES FOR THE BOWED PSALTERY was her first venture into music publishing. It was so successful that she embarked on this second volume of Early Music. She admitted to having a hard time putting the music books together. “There are so many good tunes!” Early Music for the Bowed Psaltery is her second music book. Hopefully it will be a boon for anyone who appreciates historic music or wants to take their instrument to a Renaissance Fair or SCA event. About the Author

Lance Keimig has been photographing at night for nearly 30 years. He has taught night photography and light painting since 1998 at venues including the New England School of Photography, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Houston Center for Photography, Rayko Photo Center in San Francisco, and the School of Visual Art in New York. He teaches workshops around the country and leads night photography tours to places like Iceland, Scotland, Ireland, and Cuba. Keimig lectures at the Photo Plus Expo in New York, and was a featured speaker and workshop instructor at Estudio Brasil in Saõ Paulo, Brazil. Russell Brown, senior creative director at Adobe said that Keimig "may well be one of the finest photography instructors on the planet."

Well-written and informative, a worthy second edition that seems largely re-written. The history of night photography is still there, and still absolutely fascinating. The book covers astro-landscape, long exposures in moonlight, star trails, light painting, light drawing, and post-processing for night photography with an emphasis on Lightroom, although the tips for post-processing can obviously be done in Photoshop or other programs as well. Lance also includes other photographers and their images, their personalities and approaches adding to the book's vibrancy overall. The book, even more than the first edition, offers a comprehensive look at the many facets of night photography, managing to cover it in one book. And yes, of course, the photos are mesmerizing, beautiful, fascinating, and gorgeously executed. It includes lots of scenarios and technical information about night photography. And that's what we want, isn't it?I am an experienced night sky, long exposure, Milky Way, light painting, and star trails photographer, and I nonetheless thoroughly enjoyed the book, picking up tidbits and philosophical approaches, and often affirming the good habits and approaches that I've done as well. And it's also feels great to know that other people feel the same way about night photography and how it offers a deeper connection into our surroundings.I want to also add that it is the sign of a really good teacher to take something technical, something that has the potential to be slightly intimidating or overwhelming, and break it down so that it is useful and easy to understand, but not pedantic or dumbed down. An ambitious book that mainly fulfills its objectives. There are shorter books that just answer the question, “what F-stop should I use.” This one starts with history, then “why,” and then “how.” The author assumes you have only a passing understanding of the details of exposure interrelationships, but if you are experienced you can skip a few pages; likewise he spends a little time on Lightroom, which you can skip if you know Lightroom already (although the principles of image modification are the same whatever tools you use).There’s plenty of image examples from his own and others’ work, including in-process examples showing the incremental impacts of post-processing steps. Perhaps most importantly, he is enthusiastic about night photography and leaves you eagerly awaiting sunset so you can zip outside and try it, even in your own backyard.

Consider this the "New Testament" of the excellent first edition. Neither of these books are necessarily aimed at the beginner, but will definitely take the experienced photographer's work to the next level. It is the fine-tuning of the details that separates a great night photograph from a good one, and this book is all about the details. From choosing the right gear to studying the movements of the night sky to post processing techniques, no stone is left unturned. Also included are many example photographs from contemporary night photographers showing the many directions night photography can take and how it is limited only by one's imagination.Beginners may find the technical explanations a bit overwhelming to grasp completely, but if you're already past that stage and have been wanting to elevate your night photography as far as you can, this is the only book you need.

I gave it to my brother for Christmas and he really loved it! He's already been playing with low light photography for a couple of years and loves to process photos on his computer. He told me this book had a lot of information he didn't have before, and great photos as well. So it was a good gift for an intermediate night photographer!

This book offers straight forward information, techniques and setting advice for multiple types of night photography including talking about the different types of bulbs you will encounter for more city based night photography. It's an excellent reference and helped me find my niche.

Absolutely incredible textbook, excellent drawings and pictures. I just wish the binding were better: mine started to crack from the very beginning, but it could be just my bad luckUpdate: reordered the item and it arrived damaged again. I think the problem is two fold: bad packaging and not a good quality of assembly(shame on a publisher, books of this price rank should be assembled impeccably)

About the Author
Margrit Schreier is Professor of Empirical Methods at Jacobs University Bremen. She started out with a BA in English Language and Literature (at New College, Oxford), before she went on to study Psychology at Heidelberg University (Dipl. Psych., Dr.) where she first became interested in qualitative research methods. She was also co-director of the Methods Center of the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS) and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Media Psychology. She has taught research methods courses for 15 years, including qualitative methods, experimental design, and mixed methods, to students from a variety of social science disciplines, and has given workshops on qualitative content analysis and other methods topics at GESIS, the Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences, for more than five years. Her other research interests include the didactics of teaching qualitative research methods, media reception, the empirical study of literature, and health-related research. She has been a principal investigator in several DFG-funded research projects on these topics, and she has authored and co-authored an introductory methods textbook and more than 90 book chapters and articles. When she is not working, she enjoys cooking and photography. She is also a homeopath and has been surprised to find that homeopathy allows her to apply many of her methods skills - including qualitative content analysis!

Received the order in a timely fashion.. loved the book. I have known about Rosa Parks all of my life and recently read 7 Women by Eric Metaxas in which he honors her story. After that book (which was excellent, by the way), I had to read more about Rosa Parks and "Rosa Parks My Story" was recommended. It is not written as a professional artist/author would write but she tells her story infinitely better. The authors are not attempting to persuade the reader merely informing of what happened, from her perspective, in a time of uncertainty and why it happened as it did, again from her perspective.

Well written. Such a poignant story! I appreciated the punctuation in all in the right places throughout. A quick read but the story swims in your head. Excellent.

I lived in the era of Civil Rights and I think this is quite an accurate portrayal.

Had to buy this for a class. Pretty good book.

I had never known how much Ms. Parks was an activist in the Civil Rights movement and not merely a victim of the times. I have grown to respect her even more after reading this!
